COFACE’s response to the first overview of responses to the consultation on the EU 2020 Strategy The EU Commission published a first overview of responses to its public consultation on the EU 2020 Strategy on 2 February. It claims that the "stakeholders with a social vocation broadly support the Commission's proposed priorities", making no reference as to whom these stakeholders might be. In its response to the consultation, COFACE underlined the essential shortcomings of this 2020 strategy, and issued a press release confirming its positions.
COFACE appealed to the Heads of State and Government meeting on 11 February in Brussels to discuss EU 2020 Strategy to bear in mind three key elements for a cohesive society, namely, a) growth and jobs cannot be seen as aims by themselves, b) inclusive societies and social cohesion cannot be achieved solely through education and lifelong learning, and c) to tackle the demographic challenge and promote solidarity between generations, it is crucial to invest in quality, accessible and affordable care services.
