Gezinsbond Family Barometer reveals that parents in Flanders want longer maternity leave 

The latest Family Barometer by COFACE member Gezinsbond focuses on care leave and the results reveal that families in Flanders with children between 0 and 18 years are seeking more time to care for their children.  

The findings particularly highlight that over two-thirds of parents want longer maternity leave, while three in four parents feel that compensation for parental leave is insufficient.  

In addition, 75% of parents believe that parental leave should be doubled for single parents. Jeroen Sleurs, the general director of the Gezinsbond, points out that despite concerns about the cost of extended leave, countries such as those in Scandinavia, where maternity leave can last up to a year, have seen more women returning to work full-time. These results shed light on the desires and perspectives of families in Flanders regarding care leave.
