Research by COFACE member KMOP sheds light on bullying dynamics and parental needs in 6 countries

KMOP, a COFACE Greek member, along with six other organisations from Italy, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, and the Netherlands, have conducted desk and field research on the subject of bullying as part of the Erasmus+ project “Like father, like son.” The initiative aims to equip parents and guardians of children aged between 10 and 15 with knowledge and tools to help them explain the various aspects of diversity to children and young people.

The field research involved parents of children between 9-15 years old to better understand their needs, stories, and experiences regarding bullying. The findings revealed that the parents showed a good awareness of the reasons behind bullying and the signs to look for. However, they expressed a need to learn more about effectively dealing with incidents of bullying and providing support to their children. The material that will be developed should build on their existing knowledge and equip them with more advanced knowledge in relation to bullying.

The desk research showed that most countries faced bullying as a dynamic process, identifying multiple roles in this circle of violence. It also highlighted the distinguishing features of bullying, including persistence, intensity, frequency, and power imbalance between the victim and perpetrator. The research emphasized that bullying should not only focus on the perpetrator and victim, but rather the aggressive behavior spherically.

“Like father, like son” aims to promote the understanding that diversity comes in many forms and should be considered normal and deserving of respect. By equipping parents and guardians with knowledge and tools to tackle bullying, the initiative hopes to create a more inclusive and accepting society.
