Run for Change: Ligue des Familles campaigns for better paid parental leave

COFACE Belgian member, Ligue des Familles, is on a mission to secure better pay for parental leave, recognising it as a critical support for parents. However, the current financial compensation is far from adequate, discouraging many parents from taking this important leave.

To raise awareness of the overwhelming pressure parents face when balancing work and family life—and to emphasize the need for improved parental leave pay—the Ligue des Familleshosted a symbolic event during the Province of Liège half-marathon. Participants were invited to run on behalf of the Ligue des Familles, advocating for an increase in parental leave compensation.

The campaign’s goal is clear: to raise the parental leave allowance to €1,500 net per month for parents, and €2,000 for single parents. This initiative seeks to make parental leave a viable and supportive option for all families, ensuring they can take time for their children without financial strain.

COFACE proudly supports this creative initiative, hoping it will inspire many more members and allies to find innovative ways to advocate for real change and push together for better parental leave across Europe.
