COFACE and its member Vaestoliitto (the Family Federation of Finland) brought family organisations and safer internet centres together in Helsinki on 8-9th April for strategic discussions.
In this event opened by European Parliament President, Roberta Metsola, COFACE Families Europe brought the perspective of families to the discussion, namely in a panel on Working together to Support the Well-being of Teens Online.
COFACE Families Europe adopted 14 Digitalisation principles for creating a better Internet and web for all.
The aim of this working group meeting will be to find intersections between family, education and digital policies, to address key digital challenges for families of today, and to build stronger partnerships between family organisations, Safer Internet Centres and other stakeholders.
EU policy-makers must ensure that all families are given support and guidance to access and navigate the digital environment in a meaningful way. This includes strong legal frameworks as well as strong and “low-threshold” evidence-based support and prevention measures for families. COFACE has produced a policy brief highlighting the importance of digital technologies for children and their families, and analysing whether existing and currently debated EU frameworks aimed at ensuring safe and empowering digital experiences for children integrate a families perspective.
In the ever-evolving digital landscape, keeping our kids safe online is a top priority. The European strategy for a better Internet for kids (BIK+) has compiled a handy resource — the Compendium of Legislation. This document brings together all the important EU formal texts that revolve around children in the digital realm.
The CSA regulation was proposed in May 2022 aiming to better regulate risk assessments and detection of CSA online, imposing different obligations on tech industries, and also setting up an EU centre responsible for the monitoring and implementation of the regulation.
