First ministerial meeting of the Belgian presidency on the future of social Europe
In January 2024, the first ministerial meeting under the Belgian Presidency of the European Union brought together the Ministers for Employment and Social Affairs in the Walloon capital of Namur. During the first day, Ministers discussed how social policies should be reflected in the strategic agenda of the EU institutions after the European elections.
Towards a comprehensive and inclusive social protection of families in Europe
On 27th September 2023, COFACE intervened at a conference organised by the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union on the topic of social protection of families.The Spanish Ministry of Social Rights and 2030 Agenda and Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations brought together a wide range of Spanish, European and international speakers to look at existing data on family models and explored different policy solutions.
European Semester 2023 Reports: Spotlight on Measures to Boost Resilience of Families
The Commission presented the annual European Semester Spring Package on 24 May 2023. The Package includes a Communication, country reports and country-specific recommendations for all 27 Member States, in-depth reviews for 17 Member States, and a Commission proposal on guidelines for Member States’ employment policies in 2023.
Social protection for people with disabilities in Europe: The European Social Policy Network analysis of policies in 35 countries
The European Social Policy Network (ESPN), which supports the European Commission in monitoring progress towards EU social protection, prepared a Synthesis Report collecting the findings from 35 national reports. The Synthesis Report describes and analyses the conditions under which persons with disabilities aged 18 years and above have effective access to social protection.
A Citizen’s Debate by APF France Handicap: Proposals for social protection to meet the challenges of tomorrow
Last October, APF France handicap has launched a Citizens’ Debate on social protection. Through this initiative, the association wanted to experiment with a new form of democracy based on deliberation. They have recently published the result of this work in a citizen’s opinion entitled “Social protection and solidarity: what social model for tomorrow?”.
