COFACE Families Europe member organisation KMOP has launched a new online platform to support victims of racism and discrimination in Greece. Developed in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs and the Greek National Commission for Human Rights, the initiative aims to improve access to information, rights awareness and support services for individuals who have experienced discrimination or racist incidents.
Many incidents of racism and discrimination go unreported because victims may not know where to turn for support or how to exercise their rights. To help address this challenge, COFACE member organisation KMOP has partnered with the Greek Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs and the Greek National Commission for Human Rights to launch a new online platform supporting victims of racism and discrimination in Greece.
The platform, racism-victim-support.gr, serves as a central source of information and guidance for individuals seeking support after experiencing discrimination or racist incidents. Users can learn about their rights, access practical information materials, identify relevant authorities and protection mechanisms, and find guidance on available support services.
The initiative responds to a significant need. According to an ECOSYSTEM survey cited by KMOP, nearly eight in ten people in Greece report having experienced some form of discrimination. The new platform aims to make information and support more accessible, helping individuals recognise discriminatory incidents and understand the options available to them.
Particular emphasis has been placed on accessibility and inclusion. The platform is available in 11 languages: Greek, English, French, Ukrainian, Farsi, Dari, Arabic, Urdu, Albanian, Pashto and Turkish. This multilingual approach seeks to ensure that people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds can access reliable information and support.
In addition to practical resources, the platform provides information on victims’ rights under Greek legislation, including the right to information, support services, psychological assistance and referral to specialised services where needed.
KMOP developed the platform within the framework of the European project ECOSYSTEM: Strengthening Public Authorities’ Capacity to Respond to Intersectional Discrimination through Multi-Agency Coalitions. Co-funded through the European Union’s Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme, the project aims to strengthen the capacity of public authorities in Greece to identify and effectively address racism, intolerance and intersectional discrimination.
