Since the introduction of the current mobile phone restrictions in Greek schools, COFACE member KMOP has conducted research on the impact of these measures on educators.
The research explores how the measures are being implemented in Greek schools, what educators are observing among students, and what they believe is needed beyond the ban.
Through its “Live Without Bullying” campaign and in collaboration with the Greek Safer Internet Centre of FORTH, KMOP gathered responses from 342 educators across Greece.
The findings highlight some interesting changes in Greek schools. More than two out of three educators report that the measures are being implemented to a great or very great extent, with fewer distractions during lessons, better classroom organisation and more face-to-face interaction among students.
Educators have also reported challenges associated with the restrictions, including anxiety and difficulties in social interaction among students.
A large majority of the participants, about 93.6%, agreed that complementary measures to the ban are needed, including education on responsible digital use, alternative activities during school hours and stronger collaboration with parents.
The survey has also received wide media coverage in Greece, from both national and regional media.
