WOMEN FOR WOMEN develops resources to help children navigate parental divorce

COFACE Families Europe member WOMEN FOR WOMEN in Czech Republic has developed new educational materials to help children understand and navigate their parents’ divorce. The resources are part of the organisation’s Family Support Service (Servis rodiny) project and provide accessible information about children’s feelings, common concerns and where to find support.

The materials address emotions such as sadness, anger and guilt, reassuring children that their parents’ separation is not their fault and that there are no wrong feelings. They also explore common worries, including where children will live, whether they will continue seeing both parents and how changes might affect their school, hobbies and relationships.

Another important topic is the pressure children can experience when parents involve them in disagreements. The materials explain why children should not have to choose sides, carry messages between parents or feel responsible for a parent’s wellbeing. They also challenge common misconceptions, including the belief that children’s behaviour can cause their parents to divorce.

The resources encourage children to talk about their concerns with trusted adults, such as parents, teachers or school psychologists. They also explain what to expect when speaking with a professional and introduce WOMEN FOR WOMEN’s Family Hub as a place where children can discuss their experiences and seek support.

The materials are available online and were also distributed through ÁMOS Vision interactive panels in hundreds of primary schools across the Czech Republic until 1 June 2026.
